What the New Accor+ Changes Mean for Amex Platinum Charge & Reserve Cardholders

By Author October 5, 2025

If you hold an American Express Platinum Charge or Platinum Reserve card, you're probably familiar with the Accor+ (ALL Accor+) privilege that comes bundled with it. Now, Amex is adjusting how this benefit works — and it’s important to know what changes lie ahead. 🔄 What’s Changing? Cardholders will now be granted a 12-month complimentary ALL Accor+ Explorer (Traveler/Traveller) membership. This new “Explorer” tier is a lighter version of Accor+ membership; it still offers discounts on stays, dining, and select benefits, but some premium perks or elite features might no longer apply. The benefits under this Accor+ offering may differ from the full Accor+ membership available via direct subscription. Enrollment processes, validity, and activation timelines will adhere to the standard rules set by Amex and Accor’s partnership. 🛎 Why the Change Matters Benefit Value Shift: The revision may reduce some of the exclusivity or depth of perks that premium cardholders were used to. Clarity Needed: Cardholders must carefully check which benefits carry forward and which are scaled down under the Explorer level. Renewal Strategy: If you are near renewal or deciding to activate Accor+ benefits, you’ll want to time and plan your usage before the changes take effect. Perks Retained: Expect hotel and dining discounts to continue, but don’t automatically assume upgraded room, status nights, or voucher benefits will remain intact at the same level.
