Bank Holiday on August 25, 2025? Here’s Where Banks Are Closed Today
Banks across India will remain closed in select states today, August 25, 2025, as part of regional and national holidays observed under the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday schedule. However, banking services will not be disrupted nationwide since holidays vary by state and type—such as Negotiable Instruments Act holidays, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, and bank account closing days. While physical branches may remain closed in some states, essential digital banking services, including UPI transactions, mobile banking, and internet banking, will function as usual. Customers can perform fund transfers, bill payments, and check balances without any interruption through online channels. This ensures that banking convenience remains unaffected even on holidays. The RBI publishes a comprehensive list of bank holidays each year, dividing them into three categories—state-specific holidays, national holidays, and holidays for specific regional events. Today’s closure applies to certain states based on local festivals or events. Customers planning branch visits are advised to check the official holiday list or confirm with their respective banks beforehand. ATM services will remain operational, though users in rural or semi-urban areas may experience cash shortages if the machines are not replenished timely. Banks usually make arrangements to ensure ATM availability during extended holidays, but customers are still advised to plan withdrawals in advance. In addition to cash transactions, non-cash services such as cheque clearances, RTGS, and NEFT might not be processed today for affected states. However, IMPS and UPI transactions will continue as these operate 24x7. With banking largely digitized, the impact of such holidays is now minimal compared to earlier years.
